Baron José Antonio da Silva, Flandrensian Ambassador to Brazil, was appointed to the same position in the small South American duchy.

In a historic first for its foreign policy, the Grand Duchy of Flandrensis has established its first-ever embassy accredited directly to another micronation. On Sunday, 1 March 2026, His Serene Highness Duke Arthur V formally accepted the credentials of Baron Mr. José Antonio da Silva, who now assumes office as Ambassador of Flandrensis to Marienbourg.
The diplomatic process began on 26 February 2026, when Baron José—who has served as Flandrensian Ambassador to Brazil since 2020—contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Marienbourg and presented his credentials to Foreign Minister Mr. Victor Braz. The initiative followed a previously announced intention to seek accreditation and was carried out with the authorization of Mr. Eduard Boada, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Flandrensis, who, just over two weeks ago, was honored by our Duke with the Order of Mines and Baths.
Flandrensis has traditionally limited its ambassadorial appointments to sovereign states recognized by the United Nations—often referred to within the community as macronations. Contacts with micronations within said countries have typically occurred through those embassies. The direct accreditation to Marienbourg therefore marks a significant evolution in Flandrensis’ diplomatic engagement.
After a brief exchange between Ministers Victor Braz and Eduard Boada and the ambassador-designate, the Marienbourgish Foreign Minister formally submitted the credentials to the Sovereign. His Serene Highness accepted them and invited the newly appointed ambassador to attend a diplomatic meeting at his convenience, strengthening bilateral dialogue and enlarging an already formalized relationship between the two states. The Duke also announced his intention to appoint an ambassador to Flandrensis.
The diplomacy between Flandrensis and Marienbourg was established on 28 July 2025, when the two sides signed a treaty of mutual recognition and friendship; the embassy now functions as a means to deepen cooperation and enhance practical channels of communication. Both governments have identified environmental protection among their policy priorities and the new mission may facilitate joint initiatives in that area.
The diplomatic ties are also rooted in personal connections: the Sovereign’s relationship with the Flandrensian Grand Duke dates back to 2022, when Flandrensis established relations with the Kingdom of Ebenthal — a state of which our Duke also serves as sovereign ex officio. Nicholas I and Arthur V have maintained friendly ties since that period, a rapport that might have helped pave the way for closer engagement. Celebrating the establishment of the Flandrensian Embassy in Marienbourg, in a friendly gesture, Minister Eduard Boada sent his greetings to Minister Victor Braz and Duke Arthur V of the Marienbourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by a photo of the list of Marienbourgish honours bestowed by His Serene Highness on 18 February 2026 along with a medal of the Flandrensian Order of the Melting Mountain.
