Ecology: a new ministry?

Environment at the focus of politicians.

In view of the abnormal extreme heat waves that have been afflicting South America throughout this year 2023, especially in the months of November and December, in which the upper Atlantic coast of the continent experiences real-feel temperatures above 58ºC (137ºC), it is Is it necessary for the state to deal with these climate issues directly? That's what the Marienbourg parliamentarians are asking. On December 3rd, The Most Worthy Mr. Filipe Arantes (UD) addressed the Diet on the proposal to create the Ministry of Ecological Affairs. According to the parliamentarian, the name "Ecological Affairs" should be adopted, if the department is created, in order to actively remind people of the importance of ecology - as opposed to the name "Environment", considered vague.

Filipe does not intend to just create a folder dedicated to the subject and let his efforts die with it. With unanimous support from his party, the Democratic Union, the parliamentarian intends, through the ministry, to implement a series of measures in the form of laws and campaigns to encourage environmental protection and promote healthy attitudes towards the environment, including a campaign to encouraging the planting of trees in open areas and the adoption of flowering plants [for bees] in backyards and the law that bans the use of plastic bags and bottles in the Marienbourgish territory.

Gabriel Torres, President of the Democratic Union, argues that the creation of an exclusive ministry for this issue, as proposed by his co-religionist, helps to highlight the importance of the issue and the need for changes, and he does not delude himself, but says: "Of course our small actions will not change the real situation. But some plants in an environment help reduce the local temperature, help the insect fauna that are important for pest control and pollination. If everyone does small actions, we can make a difference, even if in a small space. And in the current situation, any help is welcome."

The UD parliamentarian's proposal must be transformed into a bill in order to be formally presented to parliament for voting. Initially the prospects are positive, with a majority of government parliamentarians, from the Popular Party, positive about the creation of the ministry; ministry that, if created today, they would assume.
