Government creates Ministry of Ecological Affairs.

Old proposal finally come to fruition.

Five months after coming to power and more than a year after it was proposed, the Democratic Union (UD) has finally created the Ministry of Ecological Affairs. The fifth ministry of the Marienbourg Council of Ministers, officially established on 26 January 2025, will be headed by The Most Worthy Mr. Filipe Arantes, who proposed its creation at the Diet session on 3 December 2023.

The creation of the ministry passed the Diet with 8 votes in favor and 2 against, with the opposing votes coming from members of the Popular Party (PP). The bill was sanctioned and enacted into law on the same day by the Prince Regent. According to Daniel Duque-Estrada, journalist, political commentator and newly elected member of the Diet for the Democratic Union, the creation of the ministry reflects the change in government, previously led by the PP and now by the UD, and its priorities, in addition to being an old government promise made by The Most Worthy Mr. Gabriel Torres, current Minister-President and President of the UD, to his party members.

When asked about the matter, Guilherme Wünsch, current President of the Popular Party and Vice-President of the Ducal Diet, declared that he supports the measure, "which is a measure not exclusively of the Democratic Union, but of the coalition government" and that, considering that high temperatures have once again broken a record, "it is important that the state does what is in its power to combat global warming".
